Biography
Dr. Graham Bier serves as Director of the Bryn Mawr Renaissance Choir, a Bi-Co a cappella ensemble of around thirty voices that meets on Sunday evenings to sing music from 1300-1650. The group was founded in 1963 and is made up of students, alumni, faculty, and members of the wider community.
An active singer with a focus on early music, Dr. Bier co-directs the professional Renaissance vocal consort Les Canards Chantants. As a soloist he has performed with Brandywine Baroque, the Bach Choir of Bethlehem, Consortium Carissimi, Berks Sinfonietta, Choral Arts Philadelphia, and the Philadelphia Bach Collective. Dr. Bier also sings chorally with The Crossing, the New York Virtuoso Singers, Elevation, and the Philadelphia Symphonic Choir. During his time in England, Graham recorded with Stile Antico and performed with I Fagiolini, the Yorkshire Baroque Soloists, the York Minster Choir, and the Ebor Singers. He assistant directed the University of York ensemble The 24 including during visits to China and Serbia.
Dr. Bier earned a doctorate from the University of York (UK) where his research focused on stemmatics, studying the transmission of sacred music in England during the Restoration as the cathedral choirs rebuilt their repertoire. He holds positions as the Director of Music at Bryn Athyn Cathedral, Music Director of the Reading Choral Society, and serves as a Lecturer in Music at Bryn Athyn College. Since the pandemic, Dr. Bier leads online rehearsals for the award-winning WorldChoir (formerly the Stay At Home Choir).
